AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES NORTH DEVON

Here is a sample of some of the BioCultural Heritage Tourism Experiences that are available here in the North Devon UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. We hope you enjoy watching these films and that you might even decide to have a go at one or two of the experiences yourself!

  • Charcoal Kiln Experience

Here's our very own 'Mr Biosphere' himself showing us the Biosphere's new Charcoal Retort which can be used within a 'Charcoal Kiln Experience'. Learn about charcoal production and woodland management, load a portable kiln, burn the wood and leave with a bag of charcoal!

  • Nature Backpacks

Get out into Nature, learn something new and have some fun with our Nature Backpacks, created by the Biosphere BCHT Team.

Join Chris from 'Devon Heritage Skills' as he shares his knowledge of Dry Stone Walling and teaches a group of people how to repair and restore a traditional stone wall. A really fun and rewarding experience for all ages!

If you want a stripped down, uncluttered and totally thrilling adventure, look no further than a swim outdoors! Join Jim, from Channel Training, as he takes a group out to one of Exmoor's finest swim spots, The River Barle - Simonsbath, and tells us about the many benefits of open water swimming.

Take a few minutes to relax and unwind as you listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean and the voice of MJ, owner of All To Love, as she tells us why practising yoga in the heart of our Biosphere Reserve is so special.

At the heart of North Devon Biosphere, Braunton Countryside Centre is an important environmental hub, providing visitors with information and interpretation about the area. Here's your chance to see some of the fantastic activities that are available from the centre!

Take a look behind the scenes of a rural gin distillery. Julie and Pat tell us about their handcrafted, small batch gin, made from botanicals distilled on Exmoor.

You can enjoy a Heritage Gin Talk and Tasting Experience with Wicked Wolf Gin - The Spirit of Exmoor.

Learn about some of the different foods that grow wild within Watersmeet Valley, on this wonderful Wild Forage Walk with Liz from Moor Wild Experiences.

A chance to step into the past and take a walk in the footsteps of carpenters! Here we are shown the cultural heritage and waterpower of Simonsbath Sawmill, whose heritage tours offer a true taste of Exmoor.

Join Mary Breeds from Braunton Countryside Centre on a guided wildlife walk of the beautiful Braunton Burrows, the core area of our Biosphere Reserve. The Burrows are one of the largest and unspoilt areas of sand dunes in the country.

Take a tractor-drawn trailer tour around this traditional Exmoor hill farm and get to see the animals and wildlife in close quarters. A wonderful experience for all ages.

Take a look behind the scenes of the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. This film captures some of the history behind this fascinating, carbon neutral, transport system and visitor attraction.
