Summer is here! Let's take a look at the pledges made this month.
This month was busy!
We were happy to have a stall in South Molton Pannier Market to talk to local people about our Biosphere and Pledge for Nature! Fran, our 2021 Community Champion, organised the stall for us and informed local residents about the various environmental projects taking place in the town, including the South Molton Save our Swifts campaign and the community gardens.
In the afternoon we were then joined by Jenny Penllwin from Butterfly Conservation, who ran a training session on conducting butterfly transects. Walking a butterfly transect involves walking on a fixed route every week between April and September and recording all the butterflies seen. You can combine it with walking your dog! To find out how you can get involved in helping butterflies, visit our knowledge base.
A lovely idea is to encourage your neighbours and friends to get involved too, then you can set up a rota of who collects the data and when.
It's been a wonderful year as the Pledge for Nature Coordinator, however now it's time for someone new to enjoy the role as I am moving away from the area. Thank you for all your enthusiasm, hard work, positivity and actions for nature. More and more people are becoming aware of the environmental crises we face and taking action for nature in their communities. Please continue to protect our wonderful landscapes - they still need our help.
