Blog Post
Happy New Year! We hope you managed to take some time over the Christmas period to get out and enjoy nature. In this blog post we have posted the events to look out for in January as well as celebrating some of the brilliant pledges that were submitted in December.
In our second year of the Pledge for Nature project we are hoping to have even more people making pledges for nature and getting involved in the project!
Nature related events to look out for in January 2021
- Plasticfreenorthdevon are having a 'cleanse and clean month' where they are combining getting outside for an activity i.e 'blowing away the cobwebs' and giving back to nature by litter picking after or during your activity.
- Braunton Countryside Centre have Conservation and Ecology of the Braunton Burrows talks on 13th and 27th January.
- 14th January: Moor Meadows have Dave Goulson talk about how gardens and meadows can help revive our natural world.
We are also hoping to have some tree planting events in the next couple months and we will post them on this group!πΌπ³π
December Top Pledges:
- Julia in North Molton is converting an old pony paddock into a small yet diverse holding with an orchard, pond, woodland and coppice plantations.
- Moira in Spreyton is planting a damson tree and elm tree in their field.
- Jon in St Giles on Heath is installing a bat box and a log pile-"I'm managing 32 acres solely for wildlife that includes a river, meadows, woodland, ponds and fruit trees."
- Jeremy in Bradworthy is creating hedgehog homes, feeding hedgehogs and leaving wild areas and has decided not to cut their 100m hedge this year.
- George in Brayford is creating two wildflower damp meadows: "we will be increasing the number of species in the meadows thereby improving biodiversity on the land"
- Audrey in Huntshaw is planting a native hedge.
Thank you everyone, these are all fantastic actions to help nature!
