We had lots of fantastic pledges made by Gardeners this year.

Winners: Gary and Lynn

They are currently creating a quarter acre wildflower patch and have just started planting freshwater plants in a new eight metre wildlife pond. Within two days they had dragonflies laying eggs, whirligig beetles and pondskaters.  The areas of long grass left from last year has a good population of field mice and voles, so now they get regular visits from a pair of Kestrels and their two chicks. They have also had sparrow hawks, hedgehogs and a field full of starlings in their garden. Photo credit for all images Gary Green

Other Commendable pledges

James

James has used inherited gravel and rubble areas in the front garden and created habitat by burying rubble, covering with topsoil, leaving access to the rubble layer as a refuge for slow worms and invertebrates.  They have seeded the area with (approx 15 square metres in total) with a wildflower meadow seed mix and are currently eagerly awaiting germination.  They have pledged to create a small wildlife pond and plant fruit tree in their back garden.

Cheryl and Rodger

Created a birds, bees and butterfly garden, in memory of their nature loving mum (Farmer Jenny) who passed away in July 2021.  This will be for all the visitors to the farm to enjoy.
