Sue moved to the farm in 2020 and has big plans for Greencliff Farm, their pledge: Converting grassland to wildflower maritime meadow. We are rewilding our 85 acre farm over the  next few years, we would love to have hedgehogs and many more flora and fauna on the farm by creating scrapes, meadows, woodland, dense hedges etc.Converting grassland to wildflower maritime meadow. They have already seeked advice to make a fantastic farm plan and have started to pot hazel and willow for the hedgerow.

We have planted approx 1000 trees over 3 acres on our land - all natural woodland trees such as oak, beech, cherry, birch etc

Planted 1/2 an acre of wildflower mixes for birds, butterflies and bees with plans for more over the coming years.

This orchard will be planted in a small paddock that is currently used for grazing. We are no longer going to use the site for grazing so it will be come a nature area. We will plant and protect the tree with guards. The grass beneath the trees may be lightly grazed by a few chickens or geese at low levels for a short period of time. We also intend to diversity the grassland and sow wildflower seeds and grasses. Next to the orchard we keep bees and hope they will use this area over time. All tree will be a local variety and sourced locally.

Kitty updated us with the following: So far we have planted 10 fruit trees, and 5 more to go! We decided to go bigger than originally planned,we had the space and wanted to make sure we make a difference. All sourced from local varieties and small independent companies. We plan to erect some small protection fences around each tree, but as yet we haven't done this. We will be scattering some wild flower seed within the next week r so! In the future we hope to graze the surrounding area very lightly with some of our small rare breed geese to keep the grass down and let the wildflowers take over 🙂My Mum (Indi Mae) has also been busy, in the Orchard area she has planted hundreds of hedging trees around the premier (too small to see very well in a photo at the moment but one day they will be a lovely hedge! There is a mix of wild pear, wild cherry, holly, hawthorn, blackthorn, gorse, roses etc).
